Cinema version

Viktor Alimpiev (*1973, Moscow), whose work Summer Lightings was shown at the 4th Berlin Biennale in the Former Jewish Girls’ School, combines different artistic fields in his cinematic work: visual arts, music, theater and dance. In his films he has worked with the human body and more recently with song and speech. During the 2005 Venice Theatre Biennale he directed the play We’re Talking about Music in Italian language together with Marian Zhunin. In Linz in 2006 he created the video Wie heisst dieser Platz? in German.

As part of the exhibition series “Art and Music” Art Laboratory Berlin is pleased to show two recent works, where the medium of film visualizes a full framework of references about speech, song and bodily movement, within which the concept of sculpture plays a vital role.

Program in Progress

Homo Bellicus will take place in Berlin-Wedding from June 29th to July 9th in five different locations, the main exhibition site being "Christiania". The Homo Bellicus official opening will take place on Friday, June 29th starting off with performances by Häst Duo (Sweden) and Ulla Hvejsel (Denmark) at “Glaskasten”.

Afterwards we’ll take a short walk over to “Christiania”, a huge building and former transformer station, where most of the artworks are on display.

Our art.movie program will start on Thursday July 5th at “Brotfabrik” cinema. There will be daily screenings starting at 7 pm.

Among the over 50 artists represented are promising works from upcoming artists and art students like Jörg Hommer (showing his video expedition “Walk along the edge of democracy”; a video ramble along the security-fence in Heiligendamm, where this years G8 summit took place) and Wolfram Hahn (currently showing at C/O Berlin's “Talents 07”) as well as works from well-known artists, like this years Videonale winners Geissler & Sann showing their video “Fuck the War” or Californian minimalist painter Miya Ando Stanoff.

We hope to see all of you at the opening or during the exhibition period in Berlin. Note that except for "Brotfabrik" cinema, entry is free.

Invaliden1
is pleased to invite you to the exhibition of
Santiago Ydañez´s new works on Friday 29tht at 19 pm.

To walk-kill the silence

Places cheat us, they pretend to be recognizable. We look for help to orient ourselves, as if that would be enough. We think that we identify faces, looks, movements. Till the minimal details.

It is the same if shouts or rests. The walk is made of loss and founds. Of a smiling cruelty. The end is nothing but the gentlest destruction.

Landscape is not the place. It would like to be an enormous and disappeared body. To be always everywhere.

Silence is always a return point. A moment. When monstrosity results to be beautiful and beauty is sad.

In the strange coincidence between the immobile and the violent, the walk remembers us the impossible. Landscape is now a universe. Uninhabited and kind. Not even hostile.

Once we have exceeded the consciousness, there are no further shouts to be heard. We are allowed to watch the disaster. With a mortal indifference.

Santiago Ydáñez was born in 1969 in Jaén, Spain. He made his Degree in Fine Arts at the University of Granada and is right now one of the young Spanish artists with more international projection. He won among others the ABC Painting Award in 2002, the Generación 2002 de Caja Madrid Painting Award, the Spanish College Scholarship in Paris granted by the Spanish Culture Department and the Marcelino Botín Foundation Scholarship.

He lives and works in Berlin (Germany) and Granada (Spain).
