Wishing everybody health and happiness in 2007

12 January is full of openings and events in Mitte Nord:

at Invaliden 1

Invaliden1 is pleased to invite you to the opening of Why is there
Something instead of Nothing? first solo exhibition of Jesus Palomino
(Sevilla, 1969) in Berlin.

Opening: 12/01/2007 _ 19:00 - 21:00

Exhibition: 13/01 - 17/02
Opening hours: wed - sat _ 15:00 - 18:00

Recently arrived from Marfa (Texas) where he has participated in the
Artists in Residence Programme of The Chinati Foundation, the artist
presents six collages across the gallery floor resembleling an open
air market. Using everyday objects and common materials in this new
project the artist continues the work of exploring the existing
paralelisms in the production of art and the multiple surrounding
realities: POVERTY, POLITICS, LANGUAGE, URBANISM, TELEVISION...

In the last years the work of Jesus Palomino has been seen in major
group shows such as "BIG SUR. Nuevo arte español" (Hamburger Bahnhof,
Berlin) and "CIUDAD MULTIPLE" (Panama City), and is currently showing
at the I Arquitecture, Art and Lanscape Biennial of the Canary
Islands.

This exhibition is made possible with the generosity of Galeria Helga de Alvear, Madrid.

Ayse Erkmen Habenichts

In her show in the Galerie Barbara Weiss, Ayse Erkmen creates fleeting
situations at the border between art and the world of useful objects,
and thereby opens up a new perspective on the aesthetics of the
material she uses.

WHITE COLUMNS

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 10th, 7:30 PM

DODIE BELLAMY will read
“DIGGING THROUGH KATHY ACKER’S STUFF”

“Kathy Acker, the novelist and theorist, died from breast cancer in 1997. Her papers are at Duke, but her clothes and accessories remain in the possession of her executor Matias Viegener. Beginning Tuesday, January 9, I will display a selection of Kathy Acker's clothes at White Columns in New York City, and on Wednesday, January 10 at 7:30, I will give a presentation, "Digging Through Kathy Acker's Stuff." Last February while visiting Viegener in Los Angeles, I rummaged through Acker's extravagant designer wardrobe, and wheedled one of her Gautier dresses from him, and a couple pieces of jewelry. Possessing such intimate effects of a woman I wasn't so much friends with as in awe of, I felt compelled to write it all out. I meditate upon relics, ghosts, compulsive shopping, archives, make-up, our drive to mythologize the dead, Acker's own self-mythologizing, the struggle among followers to define Acker, bitch fights, and the numina of DNA.” – Dodie Bellamy.
