David Krepfle : DUMBO
Friday 6. October, 8 PM
Duration: 10.6 – 29.10
Open hours: Fridays and Saturdays, 4-8 PM
It’s a familiar situation in the urban environment: artists settle in a neglected part of a city, build up the area, and make it interesting. Gradually others notice. More people move to the area and the cost of living increases. The artists are eventually driven out by the high prices.
The exhibition “DUMBO” by David Krepfle offers insight into the artist’s personal experience of this gentrification process. David lived for 14 years in the small neighborhood of DUMBO, located in Brooklyn at the base of the Manhattan Bridge, directly across from the southern end of Manhattan. He settled there when it was a neglected industrial wasteland and stayed untill this past summer, when the building he lived in was sold and the tenants forced to leave.
The neighborhood is now a bustling complex of small shops, and trendy cafes. In preperation for the departure from his home, David created a series of portraits of the people he got to know over the years. The 250 faces tell the story of the neighborhood, a poignently human representation of this common trend in the urban landscape.
Join us for the opening on Friday October 6th, at the Takt Kunstprojektraum.
The opening starts at 8:00 PM.
